The spirit of philanthropy is the driving force that animates Vastushodh's business. The betterment of society, particularly its economically weaker sections, is the fulcrum around which its business activities revolve.Therefore, it would not be farfetched to state that
, in a manner of speaking , "corporate social responsibility" is woven into the very fabric of Vastushodh's corporate ethos and philosophy. In the words of Nitin Kulkarni, "Working for the underprivileged runs in our DNA and we want to maintain it."
The Vastushodh Foundation was set up on 1 December 2013. Their aim is to look at CSR from a different perspective. This particular CSR activity revolves around working to conserve and promote Pune's heritage. There is an Itihaas Sanshodhan Kendra (historical research centre) near Bhatratnatya Mandir in Pune, whose restoration has been initiated by Vastushodh. Also, precious documents predating the reign of the Peshwas, such as letters from Shivaji Maharaj, among other things, are now being digitised.
For medical insurance of students belonging to Municipal schools A donation was made to the Sakal Media Group for the medical insurance of 40,000 students belonging to municipal schools in December 2013. It was a one-time premium.
Daycare centre and school for labourers' children The Management of Vastushodh decided to start a daycare centre and school at their Kondhawe Dhawade site where an UrbanGram was coming up in 2010. Its aim was to ensure the safety of labourer's children and facilitate their academic development. Vastushodh teamed up with an NGO called Door Steps Schools, which now runs such schools at all its sites.
Supporting athletic talent of India for Olympic-level competition Vastushodh gladly associated with Olympic Gold Quest and its leaders were felicitated for their financial contribution by well-known sports personalities, Geet Sethi and Prakash Padukone. A boxing glove signed by Mary Kom was also presented to Vastushodh's leaders as a souvenir.
Promoting an activity for health and fitness Spinning (stationary cycling) is an indoor activity, which is an extremely exhausting cardio sport. Vastushodh has taken it upon itself to popularise this sport. It lent financial support to a spinning studio on Satara Road in Pune. This is aimed at spreading awareness of the sport in Pune city.
Promoting the heritage of Indian classical music Since 2011, Vastushodh sponsors Vasantotsav, also referred to as Vasant Utsav, is a music festival held in Pune in December-January. The event has been organised every year since 1985 by the Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande Pratisthan, in the memory of Late Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande. Vastushodh is proud to be associated with Vasantotsav as they are staunch promoters of Indian classical music.
A helping hand to Baba Amte's selfless initiative An event was conducted for the kids of Hemalkasa at the Balgandharva Rangmandir, Pune, in February 2014. Children performed on stage with an orchestra to accompany them. The directors of Vastushodh, present at the event, donated a substantial amount to towards the cause.
Distribution of traditional snacks among workers Every year Vastushodh gives away traditional gifts to labourers working at their sites. Initially, 500 kg of 'chiwda' and 'laddoos' each, used to be ordered. Gradually, the quantity went up to 2,500 kg of each item.
